How to live in Bangkok as a Digital Nomad
A new day in Bangkok starts like this: you’ll be drinking coffee, learning Thai or Mandarin, watching the news updates from around the world while trying not to get lost on your way to the gym... or you'll be sitting at a café checking out the latest Kickstarter campaigns, blogging about post-modernism in France or checking your emails for your next job assignment.
As a Digital Nomad, you are an entrepreneur of your lifestyle. This means you can choose how to live your life, where and whom to travel, and what activities to pursue.

You can quickly get a lot of work done being surrounded by diverse people from all over the world while still feeling like you're at home. The city is also great for networking. It’s filled with new friends waiting to be found who are more than willing to introduce you to their local entrepreneur / Digital Nomad scene sources.
Living styles in Bangkok
There is no single way to live in Bangkok as a digital nomad. Like any other city in the world, each person will find their way to live and set up their workspace. Therefore, it's best to take some time to find out what works for you to create your perfect Digital Nomad living space.
For example, you might want to get rid of your TV and enjoy the energy of the streets. You also might prefer living with a friend or two, who may share interests and similar working style habits as you do. Alternatively, you may choose a lifestyle where you work from home but socialize in bars every evening with like-minded digital nomads.
Creating a digital nomad lifestyle in Bangkok is not tricky but does require some forethought and advanced planning. The first thing you want to do is get yourself a good laptop because that’s what you will be using for all your work purposes. And, if you’re into sports, this is a golden opportunity to keep your body and mind in shape! (if you're not into sports, that's ok because there are still many other activities you can do in Bangkok and Thailand as a digital nomad).
The best place to start looking for an apartment is through the Agoda website. There is always a great selection of apartments close to work-friendly neighbourhoods and fantastic locations for food and entertainment throughout the city. Another great resource can be found at Airbnb -- make sure you’re staying with a local Thai who knows their way around town.
Accommodation
Bangkok is full of different types of accommodation depending on your needs and tastes. There are many beautiful hotels, hostels, and apartment buildings that are centrally located and offer a luxurious lifestyle. If you want to live in a more budget-friendly way, you can always look around for a cheap studio, small apartment or an all inclusive serviced suite, which comes with the added benefits of hotel amenities.
Neighbourhoods for Digital Nomads
When it comes to choosing the best location, you have many options on where to rent in Bangkok. There are plenty of different areas for meeting people and socializing.
Silom is a good choice for a professional Digital Nomad looking for a central location close to many coworking spaces and bars where they can engage with local entrepreneurs, network with freelancers, or meet new people. As another example, Banglampoo-Samphanthawong is one of the most popular areas for Digital Nomads in Bangkok. It is full of cool local bars and restaurants where you are sure to make some friends.
Thonglor is a central, trendy area in Bangkok. It is filled with the hippest restaurants, bars, coffee houses, and shops, close to the central BTS sky train station and various nightlife destinations at Sukhumvit soi 33 and Tha Phra Athit road. A good base for a Digital Nomad is Soi Our Sonwapha -- it's close to the Soi Thonglor, has many cafes and restaurants, and has some coworking spaces.
Downtown Bangkok is another popular area for many digital nomads. It is similar to Thonglor but has more co-working spaces and a more significant community. The Digital Nomad hotspots are Silom, Rama 2, and Suriwongse. If you want to live there, that's great - remember to buy a couple of bikes for transportation, as the BTS doesn't go there.
Community of Digital Nomads
One of the best ways to meet Digital Nomads in Bangkok is to join one or more "digital nomad groups" on Facebook. There are many of them to choose from, some better than others. We would say that the biggest and most active group is called "Digital Nomads Bangkok," where you can easily find more than a thousand members and discover cool projects, events, and all kinds of helpful information.
Another great resource for the newbie digital nomad is remoters which provides info, newsletters, events and more.
Cheap workspace in Bangkok
This is your place if you're looking for a good coworking space with fast internet, good coffee, and an excellent location. It's situated in Soi Sukhumvit 38, so it is close to the BTS station Asok, and it takes only a few minutes to reach the heart of the CBD.
We recommend renting an excellent office to work from because you can have privacy, high-speed internet, and a great city view. There are many coworking spaces around Bangkok, like Culture Lab or Work In Coffee. If you prefer working from home rather than in an office with other people, coworking is not for you. Then it is better to rent a small company instead and lock yourself up for 5-6 hours every day to work in peace.
Serviced suite hotels also offer dedicated workspaces included in your rent, which is handy if you only want one monthly cost for accommodation and work.
Cafes, restaurants, and places to meet people
There are many fantastic cafes where you can enjoy delicious food, good coffee, and the opportunity to socialize with local people. Here are some of our favourites:
A. Coffee is a beautiful coffee shop in Soi Thonglor that is much more than just a coffee shop - it’s also a restaurant, bar, lounge, and internet cafe. The fact that it's open 24/7 also makes it very popular among digital nomads.
Thonglor Soi 4 has several cute cafes which are pretty popular with the locals and ex-pats who live in the area. The coffee is delicious, and they have a fine selection of cakes and pastries. It’s also possible to get some work done while exploring the city, as there are plenty of free wifi hotspots in the area.
Bangkok is a fantastic city full of people, opportunities, and experiences. It's a great place to start your new, exciting career and get inspired by Thailand's culture and endless possibilities. The food is fantastic, the people are friendly, the weather is warm, and plenty of fun things to do every day.
